People have different genetic risks of developing depression. However, someone with a high genetic risk of depression may never actually develop it. Likewise someone with a low genetic risk my actually develop depression. There are many other factors that influence the chances of you getting depression, including how much of a support network you have and some diseases also increase your chances of developing depression.
