• Question: could we live forever

      Unfortunately, I don’t think we will live forever. In terms of evolution we are not meant to live for ever as there needs to be adaption to new environments and this can only occur during the life cycle.

      No, we cannot live forever. As individuals, our body has a kind of expiry date. However, having a good lifestyle helps us to live longer.

      Living longer is also link to organ regeneration and cell division. There is a region on the chromosomes called telomeres and they are composed of DNA and to protect the important DNA where the genes are.

      By getting older, the telomeres are getting shorter due to the cell division (might damage the protection of chromosomes). Without telomeres, the division of cells stops.
      I think this is another reason why we are not living forever.

      I don’t think so, and I don’t think I’d want to! DNA based life will carry on indefinitely though, and since we are all related to all humans and to all other life on the planet, in some ways we have lived from the beginning of DNA based life to the point at which that molecule no longer exists…
