The full cycle pregnancy usually takes 9 months (or approximately 40 weeks). Within time period, there are the categories, these are called trimesters, which are the main stages of foetal development. Each trimester lasts about 12 weeks (3 months). In the first trimester, the fertilised egg is rapidly diving to form an embryo. At about week 10, the embryo has developed into a foetus, which is about 30mm in length. This then starts to develop its features to look more like a baby. Ultrasound scans are one way of viewing a baby’s growth and development whilst it is in the mother’s womb.
