Heya! My research is about finding the genetic causes of preterm birth, which leads to babies being born prematurely. It is known that babies that are born too early have life are born with many severe conditions, such that they need to rely on an incubator in the first few days of life. This because they do not have time/right conditions to properly develop their organs as they would if they were still in the womb.

However, if the right treatment is given to a mother early on in pregnancy, then we can help a baby stay in the womb longer and therefore prevent a baby being born with conditions such as breathing difficulties. My research is starting to uncover links with known risk factors of preterm birth, some of which are strongly indicating genetics in action.

The University of Liverpool is a great place to study! It is a vibrant and friendly environment, with the luxury of being near the main city but the campus itself is compact and therefore all the main Uni facilities are nearby. We have lots of cutting-edge research that takes place here every day – there is lots to choose from!
